Wicca and rituals
Altar
The altar is the consecrated surface on which ritual objects are placed and which acts as the centre of practice. In Wicca it is usually oriented to the north or the east and gathers representations of the four elements, often through the traditional tools: the pentacle for Earth, the chalice for Water, the athame or wand for Air and Fire, together with candles, incense and images of the Goddess and the God. It can be permanent or set up only for the occasion. Its arrangement changes with the sabbats and reflects the season, with the flowers, fruits or leaves of the moment.
