Sabbat

The sabbats are the eight solar festivals of Wicca and much of Neopaganism that make up the Wheel of the Year. Four are the greater festivals of Celtic origin, known as the fire festivals: Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane and Lammas. The other four are the solstices and equinoxes: Yule, Ostara, Litha and Mabon. Each sabbat celebrates a moment in the agricultural cycle and in the myth of the Goddess and the God. The usual dates correspond to the northern hemisphere; in the southern hemisphere many practitioners shift them by six months so that they match their own seasons.
