Pentacle

The pentacle is a five-pointed star inscribed within a circle, a central symbol of Wicca and of much of Western occultism. Its points are associated with Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Spirit, and the circle expresses the unity that contains them. On the altar it takes the form of a disc of wood, metal or ceramic engraved with the star, representing the element of Earth, on which objects are consecrated. In the tarot it gives its name to the suit of Pentacles, linked to material life, the body and work. Drawn point upwards, it symbolises spirit governing matter.
