Celtic Cross
The Celtic Cross is the most widespread ten-card tarot spread, popularized by Arthur Edward Waite in 1910. It consists of a cross of six cards and a vertical column of four. The usual positions are: present situation, crossing obstacle, foundation or root, recent past, conscious goal, near future, the querent's attitude, environment, hopes and fears, and outcome. Its strength lies in showing causes, external influences and the probable direction of a matter all at once. Because of its scope it is recommended for complex questions, not for quick consultations that can be settled with one or three cards.
