Detriment

Detriment, also called exile, is the essential weakness of a planet placed in the sign opposite its domicile. For example, Venus rules Taurus and Libra, so it is in detriment in Scorpio and Aries; the Moon rules Cancer and is in detriment in Capricorn. Tradition describes a planet in detriment as someone far from home: its qualities are still present but are expressed with discomfort, in a forced way or through unusual channels. It is not an ill omen but a different way of acting.
