Gematria
Gematria is a method of interpretation that assigns a numerical value to each letter of an alphabet and compares words that add up to the same total. Its best-known tradition is that of Jewish Kabbalah applied to Hebrew, where letters also serve as numbers, although there are versions in Greek (isopsephy) and other languages. It looks for hidden relationships between concepts through their values. It is one of the historical forerunners of modern name numerology, which inherited the idea that letters conceal meaningful numbers.
