Imum Coeli

The Imum Coeli, or IC, is the point opposite the Midheaven: the lowest part of the ecliptic, below the horizon, at the moment of birth. In most systems it marks the cusp of the fourth house and symbolises roots, family of origin, home, emotional inheritance and the inner foundation on which a life is built. If the Midheaven looks outward towards recognition, the Imum Coeli looks inward towards intimacy and belonging. Together they form the vertical axis of the natal chart, crossing the horizontal axis drawn by the Ascendant and Descendant.
