Pendulum

The pendulum is a divination tool made of a weight, usually a crystal or a piece of metal, hanging from a chain or thread. It is held still over the hand or over a board and its movement is observed: which swing means yes, no or unsure is agreed beforehand. It is also used to look for lost objects over a map or to choose between options. The most accepted explanation of its movement is the ideomotor effect: tiny unconscious muscle movements that translate what the person already senses. That is why it works best as a mirror of intuition.
