Ostara

Ostara is the sabbat of the spring equinox, around 20 March in the northern hemisphere and 22 September in the southern, when day and night are of equal length. It celebrates the balance between light and darkness and the awakening of the land: shoots, sowing and fertility. Its name draws on Eostre, a Germanic goddess mentioned by Bede in the eighth century, and symbols such as decorated eggs and the hare come from there. It is a good time to plant seeds, real or symbolic, and to begin projects with the growing energy of the year.
