Scrying
Scrying is the divinatory technique of gazing into a reflective or translucent surface until images, symbols or impressions arise. It is practised with crystal balls, black mirrors, dark water in a bowl or cauldron, a candle flame or smoke. It is very old: ancient texts describe it, and in the sixteenth century the mathematician John Dee used it with his obsidian mirror. It requires a state of relaxed attention, dim light and patience; the images are interpreted as symbolic material, similar to that of dreams. It is associated with The Moon card.
