Cauldron

The cauldron is a cast-iron pot, usually three-legged, which in Wicca symbolises the womb of the Goddess, transformation and rebirth. It has roots in Celtic mythology, where cauldrons of plenty and renewal appear, such as that of the goddess Cerridwen. In practice it is used to burn papers bearing intentions, hold charcoal for incense, prepare ritual infusions or contain water for divination. Because of its association with mixing elements and changes of state, it is related to the Temperance arcanum. A fire-resistant vessel and good ventilation are essential whenever it is used with flame.
