Chakras

The chakras are centres of subtle energy described in the Tantric traditions of India. The most widespread Western model, of seven chakras aligned from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, took shape in the twentieth century by combining those sources with Theosophical ideas, and it gave each one a colour of the rainbow and a theme: root and security, sacral and creativity, solar plexus and will, heart and love, throat and expression, third eye and intuition, crown and spirituality. They are used in meditation, yoga and crystal work as a symbolic map, not as physical anatomy.
