Spell Jar

A spell jar is a small glass container filled with herbs, salt, crystals, written papers and other ingredients chosen for their symbolism, then sealed, often with wax from a candle of the appropriate colour. It derives from the old witch bottles of English folklore, which were buried to protect the home. Each jar is dedicated to a specific intention, such as protection, calm or prosperity, and is kept nearby, carried or buried. It is a very widespread practice in modern witchcraft because of its simplicity and because it turns an intention into a visible object.
