Jumper Card

A jumper card is one that falls or leaps out of the deck while shuffling, before the cards of the spread are drawn. Many readers treat it as a message asking for attention and set it aside to read as a general comment, or as an answer to something the querent did not ask. Others simply return it to the deck, understanding it as an accident of handling. Either criterion is valid as long as it is applied consistently. If one chooses to read it, it should not be given more weight than the positions of the spread, so that every clumsy shuffle is not interpreted as a sign.
