Wicca and rituals

Lammas

Lammas, also called Lughnasadh, is the sabbat of the first harvest, celebrated on 1 August in the northern hemisphere and around 1 or 2 February in the southern. Its English name means loaf mass, because the first bread from the new grain was baked and blessed, while the Gaelic name honours the god Lugh. It is the festival opposite Imbolc. Wicca celebrates the gathered abundance and the symbolic sacrifice of the grain God, who gives his life to feed the community. It is a good time to give thanks for the concrete fruits of one's work and to share food.
